Healthy food choices just became a step closer for tweens. In June 2014 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) launched an enhanced campaign to educate young people (aged 9 to 13) to use Nutrition Facts labels when making food selections.
The “Read the Label” campaign is FDA’s next generation to its “Spot the Block” campaign (originally launched in 2007) and utilizes after-school components for educators in schools, summer camps, scout troops and community organizations.
This nationwide effort includes fun, easy tips and activities to help make label reading a part of each community’s efforts to promote healthy childhood weight.
For downloadable activities for kids, families and educators and more information on the program, go to www.fda.gov/nutritioneducation and choose Read the Label Youth Outreach Campaign.
