Menu labeling regulations will start being enforced in New York City on May 22, 2017 for chain food retailers with more than 15 locations nationwide. Calorie counts on menu boards and full nutrition information upon request will be standard requirements for these Big Apple locations.

While nationwide menu labeling regulations have been postponed until May 7, 2018, the Departments of Health and Consumer Affairs will immediately begin enforcing the updated regulations during routine New York City inspections. On August 21, 2017, both agencies will start issuing notices of violation subject to fines for those who do not comply.
